Sophie Dierks, daughter of George and Margaret Dierks, was born at Westerstede, Oldenburg, Germany - born Sophie Schluterdiers on January 27, 1871. The family came to America when she was 16 and settled for a time near Rockford, Ill. At the age of 23, in March of 1894, she was united in marriage to Dick Hobbie. They came to South Dakota after their marriage making their home in Moody County, residing on the farm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith while living in Germany, but while here attended the First Methodist Church of Riverview township.
Sophie past away April 1st, 1965 in Flandreau, Moody Co, South Dakota.
She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. George (Martha) Rhoades of Huron, Mrs. Reiner (Anna)Ernst of Sibley, Iowa, Mrs. John (Sophie) Ernst of Flandreau; four sons, George, Oscar and Walter of Flandreau and Ernest, a pastor at the Weslyn Church of Mission, S. D.; 19 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Walter Schwartz of Rockford, Ill. And Mrs. Anna Anders of Pecatonica, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers and two sisters.
Date & Time of service: Monday, April 5, 1965; 2 pm at Egan Methodist Church by Rev. Fred Shoemaker with interment at Flandreau Cemetery.
Arrangements: Thomas Funeral Home; Flandreau, SD.
Pallbearers Dwane Ernst, Roger Hobbie, Jerry Hobbie, Larry Hobbie, Harold Hobbie, Allen Pulscher.
