Ethel M. Baedke
Ethel Klein was born on December 19, 1921 at Havelock, Iowa, the daughter of John and Anna Klein. She grew up and attended school in Havelock and graduated from Havelock High School in 1939. Ethel married Walt Baedke on January 24, 1942 in Pocahontas, Iowa. After Walt returned from his military duty, they made their home in Rockwell City, Iowa in 1945. In 1947, they moved to Trent, South Dakota and in 1964, they moved to Dell Rapids. Ethel worked n the Dell Rapids School System hot lunch program from 1964 to 1976. After she retired, Walt and Ethel spent 14 winters in Arizona.
Ethel died on Tuesday, September 1, 1998 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. She was 76. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.
Ethel was a member of the Lutheran Church of Dell Rapids and Women of ELCA.
Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Walt of Dell Rapids; her two sons, Bruce and his wife, Twila of Sioux Falls, and Greg and his wife, Linda of Vermillion, her three daughters, Katherine Jacobsen of Sioux Falls, Mrs. Brad (Janet) Peterson of Louisa, Kentucky, and Mrs. Joel (Donna) Doeden of Sioux Falls; her eight grandchildren; her brother, Fred Klein of Havelock, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and her very special friend, Florence Gulbranson.
