August 29, 1972 - February 4, 2018

Sioux Falls- Shannon Peck, 45, passed away peacefully with her family at her side Sunday, February 4, 2018, at the Dougherty Hospice House. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, February 9, 2018, at the Embrace Church located at 2800 E. 57th St. in Sioux Falls. The family will be present to greet friends at the church on Thursday, February 8 from 3:00 to 7:00 PM.

Shannon Jo was born on August 29, 1972 in Luverne, MN to Ron and Marlys Bakker. She grew up in Valley Springs, SD and moved with her family to Brandon, SD when she was in 7th grade. Shannon graduated from Brandon Valley High School in 1990. Shannon was a part of her high school newspaper and yearbook staff and sang for the choir. Throughout high school she worked part time for the Brandon Valley Pizza Ranch.

After high school, Shannon earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Marketing from Southeast Technical Institute in June of 1993. Shannon attended South Dakota State University for 1 year before transferring to the University of South Dakota. While at SDSU she majored in marketing with a minor in music. She was a member of the SDSU Choir. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing and a minor in photography in July of 1999 at the University of South Dakota. Shannon was a member of the Delta Sigma Business Fraternity and sold advertising for the Volante newspaper. at USD.

Throughout Shannon’s life she enjoyed so many of life’s experiences. Hanging with her friends are some of Shannon’s most cherished memories. Shannon loved photography, chorus, art and music. Singing both at her church growing up and going on to sing at SDSU. Growing up and even into early adulthood Shannon enjoyed collecting Barbie dolls. Some of her favorites were the Holiday Barbie’s and special edition Barbie’s. Once she became a mother Shannon’s true joy in life came from watching her children in their activities, classrooms and Sunday school rooms. Shannon was a volunteer at their schools and later became a substitute teacher. She served on the PTA and was a member of MOPS. She helped organize fundraisers, class parties and events for Oscar Howe Elementary School.

Shannon’s pursued a career in event marketing working for a company that managed shows like Sesame Street live and held the largest Women’s tradeshow in the country each year in St. Louis. Her favorite marketing job was with Barnes and Noble Booksellers. She started out as the Community relations manager. Her job included hosting and organizing book signings, children’s events, and costume appearances throughout Omaha, NE. Through Barnes and Noble she partnered with Omaha Public Schools to support their reading program.

Over the past several years Shannon has worked for Embrace Church. First serving as a volunteer in the children’s ministry and then as staff teaching our elementary kids at both the 57th Street and Sertoma Campuses. This is where her true joy in work brought fulfillment to her life. She made each child know that they were loved and greeted each child and volunteer by saying; “I am so glad you are here today!”

Shannon married David Peck from Tea, SD on November 21st, 1998 (this was the legal one) with a small private ceremony in Omaha, NE. The following April they celebrated their marriage in front of family and friends at Holy Cross Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Together, they lived in Omaha, NE for the first 10 years of marriage. From this union David and Shannon were blessed with their first two children, Ella Mae (2004) and Gerrit Joseph (2006). Both were born at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE. Their family became complete when Eden Charlotte was born in Watertown, SD at Sanford Hospital in 2010. Shannon, Dave and the kids moved back to Sioux Falls in 2010 and currently reside here.

Most important to Shannon was her Faith!! Shannon spread the love of Christ to everyone she met. Shannon spent the best days of her life as a mother, wife and Child of God. Her love for her children led her to become a homemaker and spent her time providing for her family.

Shannon lived her faith every day and was truly the hands and feet of GOD! With a genuine heart and a kind smile she poured love into everyone she met!

Shannon is survived by her husband, David Peck, Sioux Falls; three children, Ella Mae, Gerrit Joseph, and Eden Charlotte, all of Sioux Falls; parents, Ron and Marlys Bakker, Brandon, SD; brothers, Brian (Collett) Bakker, Brandon, SD, Ronald (Deanna) Bakker, Sioux Falls, SD, Aaron (Heather) Peck, Rapid City, SD, Ryan (Stacey) Peck, Marshalltown, IA, and Daniel (Lexi) Peck, Omaha, NE; and her father and mother-in-law, Dave and Sherrill Peck, Sioux Falls.

Shannon’s family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be directed to the Shannon Peck Memorial Fund at US Bank Sioux Falls – Southwest 5501 W. 41st Street Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57106 for her children’s education.
