Thomas “Tom” Bauer
April 17, 1964 - October 18, 2020
Thomas “Tom” Bauer, 56, of the LifeScapes Community in Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Sunday, October 18, 2020 with his beloved caregivers by his side.
The family is wanting to conduct a funeral service for Tom in a responsible manner due to the current state of CoVid mitigation.
There will be a PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICE at 10:00 am Friday, October 30, at Miller Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, SD.
Thomas Frederick Bauer was born April 17, 1964 in Sioux Falls, SD, to Delwin W. (Bill) and Vivian (Voss) Bauer. He attended Beadle and South Sioux Schools. Following his schooling and graduation from South Sioux in 1983, he began his association with Sioux Vocational- Lifescape.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be directed to the family to be distributed to Lifescape and the Alzheimer's association.
He held many jobs at Lifescape and in the community, the latest at Qdoba. He lived in several Lifescape group homes before and after living on his own for about 10 years. He was very social and had many friends all over the community.
Tom had a wonderful life that his parents and Lifescape made possible. He loved Special Olympics bowling and traveled to the National Special Olympics in Baton Rouge, LA. He was the batboy for a Citibank softball team in the 80’s and 90’s and cherished all his team mates-especially the ones from New York that talked like the “Fonz”. He enjoyed Horse Power Therapy, Michael Jackson, the Dukes of Hazzard, and several outings to various summer camps. He traveled with Lifescape twice to see Graceland as his idol was Elvis. He loved dressing up as Elvis, singing, dancing and impersonating Elvis, and collecting all things “Elvis”! And while watching all of his favorite TV shows and eating pizza, he was always creating latch hook art and won several awards over the years at the fair for his work! Tom’s outgoing and friendly demeanor led to hundreds of special friendships over the years that were his pride and joy.
Our family would like to thank all the employees at Lifescape for the care and love they gave Tom over his many years with them. We would also like to thank Tom’s many friends and acquaintances who always made Tom feel special.
Grateful for having shared his life are his mother, Vivian, of Sioux Falls, SD, sisters, Liz (Dan) Bergstrom, Sioux Falls, SD, and Sara, Kansas City, MO, Nieces, Katie and Aubrey Bergstrom, and Kenzie and Tess Carmody, and Nephews, Brett Bergstrom and Seth Carmody. He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Bauer.
