Amanda was born May 29, 1906, at Luverne, MN, to Fritz and Sophie (Pien) Petersen. She moved with her family, as a small child, to South Dakota. After receiving her education in Moody County, she worked for various places in the area. Amanda was married to Epton C. Brandsma on January 15, 1927, at Sioux Falls and they farmed for many years near Egan, SD. Later they lived in Pipestone, MN; Sioux Falls, Milbank, Luverne, and Flandreau. Her husband preceded her in death August 29, 1987, and in 1999 Amanda moved to Brookings. She went home to be with the Lord on March 11, 2003. Amanda was a member of the Flandreau Methodist Church. She loved to crochet and bake and especially loved to spend time with family and friends. May God bless her memory.
Amanda is survived by 2 daughters: Shirley Duncan of Parker, SD; Gladys (Duane) Smith of Motley, MN; 1 son, Richard (Janet) of Brookings; 18 grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Martha Beck, Huron, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Epton; a grandson, Greg; a great-grandson, Eric; her parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
