Roy P Skroch, 71 died on Tuesday, January 4, 1994, at the Flandreau Municipal Hospital in Flandreau.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 7, at 11:00 AM at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church in Flandreau with the Rev. William Neuroth officiating. Interment will be in Ss. Simon and Jude Cemetery, Flandreau.

Visitation will begin at 9 AM on Thursday at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau, with a scripture service at 7:30 PM.

Roy P. Skroch was born on April 27, 1922, on a farm near Kensal, ND, to Frank N. and Mathilda (Stelmach) Skroch.

As an infant, his parents moved into Jamestown, ND and he received his education at Jamestown Public School. He entered the United States Army during World War II and served with the First Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (MASH) in the southwest Pacific, where he earned the bronze star medal. After his discharge he returned to Jamestown and married Mary M. Miemietz on June 18, 1946. He worked at Williston, ND in the funeral business for two years and then attended Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. They moved to Flandreau on October 16, 1950 (1590 in obit), when they purchased the Davis Funeral Home. In October 1974, he opened Skroch Funeral Chapel in Elkton. He purchased the Thomas (Thomes in obit) Funeral Home in Flandreau and the Thomas-French Funeral Home in Colman in December 1979.

He was a member of the South Dakota and National Funeral Director Associations and was appointed by Gov. William Janklow to serve on the State Board of Funeral Service. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #70, the VFW and Disabled American Veterans, a former member of Kiwanis, treasurer of the school board for 11 years and a member of Civic and Commerce, K.C.'s and the Flandreau Booster Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mary of Flandreau; three daughters, Terry (Tom) Allaire of Winona, MN, Mary K. (Peter) Ecker of Trempealeau, WI, and Pat (Scott) Pedersen of Howard; three sons, Mike (Jackie) of Flandreau, Jim of Brookings and Joe (Keri) of Brookings; 12 grandchildren; and one sister, Mary (DeLair) Hubbard of Tucson, AZ.
