Wyndal "Wyndy" Conklin
September 26, 1926 - July 7, 2014
Wyndal "Wyndy" Conklin, 87, of Sioux Falls, SD died Monday, July 7, 2014 at Good Samaritan Luther Manor in Sioux Falls. His funeral service will be 10:00 AM Monday, July 14 at Faith Temple Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation begins at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 13 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Wyndal Duane "Wyndy" Conklin, son of Guy and Mary (Kingsley) Conklin, was born September 26, 1926 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up and received his education there.
Wyndal entered the U.S. Army on December 18, 1944 at Ft. Snelling, MN and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on July 20, 1946 at Camp Atterbury, IN. Wyndal traveled to the west coast, where he worked as a fruit picker from the Mexican border to Washington State. He then returned to Sioux Falls and began his career as an auto mechanic at Pete's Texaco.
Wyndal was united in marriage with Bonnie Chambers on April 26, 1953 in Sioux Falls. The couple made their home and raised their family there. Wyndal retired following a heart attack in 1986. He and Bonnie then traveled the area attending craft shows to display their woodworking creations. They especially enjoyed donating doll houses they made to the Parent to Parent program. In his free time, Wyndal enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening and raising show rabbits and pigeons.
Grateful for having shared his life are four children, Gary Conklin and his wife, Gwen, Sioux Falls, SD, Debby Schumacher and her husband, Merle, Hartford, SD, Pam Conklin, Sioux Falls, SD, Wendy Clausen and her husband, Kelly, Sioux Falls, SD; 11 grandchildren, Katrinka Conklin, Riley Conklin, Danielle Conklin, Lee (Randy Schofield) Schumacher, Katie (Nate) Pramann, Bret (Kelli) Schumacher, Ethan Schumacher, Mandy (Wade) Kulesa, Casey (Amanda) Clausen, Cody Clausen, Jenny (Brenden) Westly; four great-grandchildren, Aurora, Reece, Korbin, Ezekiel; a sister, Darlene Michael, Sioux Falls, SD; family friend, Jennie Braaten, Sioux Falls, SD; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Wyndal was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie, on November 16, 2007; his parents; and a sister, Sybil Hayes.
