Dorothy was born May 18, 1906, in Union Township, Moody County, SD, to Joseph and Myrtle (Simons) Weigel. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1925 and married Creston Waxdahl on June 24, 1925, at the Lutheran Parsonage in Flandreau. They farmed in Grovena Township south of Flandreau until 1946 when they moved into Flandreau. They continued to farm, helping their daughter, Joyce and her husband, Virtus, until Creston's death on February 17, 1965. Dorothy continued living in Flandreau and became a resident at Riverview Manor on January 8, 1998. Her family and grandchildren were very important to her and they spent a lot of time together. Dorothy was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School for more than 25 years, serving as Superintendent many of those years, and other church organizations and committees. She was a 4-H Leader, school board member of their country school, PTA President at Egan, member of Square Deal Club, Twentieth Century Study Club, Farm Bureau, WCTU (Medary Conference), and Reading Club.

Dorothy is survived by 2 daughters: Joyce Schroeder and Doris Dailey, both of Flandreau; 7 grandchildren: Dale Schroeder, Helen Block, Glenda Derdall, Clark Dailey, Diane Dailey, Keith Dailey, Miriam Dailey; 9 great-grandchildren: Creston, Keith and Collin Block, Peter, Claire, and Lucas Derdall, Kristin Dailey, Alex and Jeremy Dailey; 4 stepgreat-grandchildren, Travis Sass, and John, Joshua, and Casey Krempges; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Creston; her parents, a brother, Joseph D. Weigel; and 2 sisters: Marguerite Weigel and Jodata Kotan.
