Ray Zeigler, 87, Flandreau, S.D., died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Riverview Manor Nursing Home, Flandreau.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15 at 2 p.m. at United Methodist Church, Flandreau, with Pastor Cori Waisanen officiating.

Interment will be in Union Cemetery, Flandreau.

Ray was born Dec. 9, 1919 in Redfield, S.D., to James A. and Cora (Lee) Zeigler. He attended Mitchell Grade School and then his family moved to Flandreau where he graduated from high school in 1938. Ray worked in Michigan and then joined the Merchant Marines in New York during WWII.

He married Arlene Amdahl at Bethania Lutheran Church, rural Trent, S.D. They returned to New York and Ray sang at the Roxie Theater. In 1948 they returned to Jasper and then moved to Pipestone in 1950. Ray worked in retail sales for many years.

His wife preceded him in death on Feb. 1, 1996.

Ray became a resident at Riverview Manor in January of 2005.

He was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons, Brad (Lucia), Amarillo, Texas and Steve (Jackie), Minneapolis; and three grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; two sons, Tom and Mark; and a brother, Ralph.
