1925 - 2009
Florence Soldatke Voelker, age 84, died on Friday, September 18, 2009 at Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community.
Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM on Monday at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Liturgical Prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Florence Gonsoir was born on June 11, 1925 in Day County, SD, to Joseph and Veronica (Snaza) Gonsoir. Florence received her education in Webster, SD graduating from Webster High School in 1943. She went on to do her nursing education in Aberdeen, SD. In May of 1947, Florence was united in marriage with Paul Soldatke. The couple made their home in Sioux Falls, SD where she had four sons and two daughters. Paul died in 1984. In December of 1987 she was united in marriage with Marvin Voelker. Marvin died in 2006. Florence worked as a Registered Nurse for nearly 40 years, working at Sioux Valley Hospital, McKennan Hospital, Mom and Dads Nursing Home in Sioux Falls and then the Canton Nursing Home. She was also a volunteer teacher at Riverside Grade School, in Sioux Falls. Florence enjoyed dancing, was very proud of her Polish ancestry and loved singing songs in Polish, and traveling.
Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Dennis (Linnae) Soldatke, Sioux Falls, Larry Soldatke, Sioux Falls, Kevin (LeAnn) Soldatke, Harrisburg, Dorothy (Rod) Eisenbraun, Lakewood, CO, Mike (Rita) Soldatke, Franktown, CO; two sisters, Ann (Ray) Grosek, Lead, SD, and Lorraine Block, MN; one brother, Joe (Gail) Gonsoir, MN; ten grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Darlene in 1972; parents; two husbands, Paul Soldatke and Marvin Voelker; one brother, Stanley; three sisters, Philomena, Esther and Melvina.
