Flandreau Obit:

MRS. MORRIS HASVOLD
Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Morris (Ruth) Hasvold, 78, who died Sunday at the Flandreau Hospital, after a long illness. Services were held Wednesday at 11 A.M. at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church with Rev. Noel T. Vold officiating.

Ruth M. Levorson was born in Worth County, Iowa on Sept. 10, 1900. She spent her childhood near Irene, where her father was a pioneer Lutheran pastor. After graduating from Yankton High School and a summer course in teacher training at Yankton College, she taught rural schools in her home community for three years. She then continued her studies at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, with a special interest in music. She was a member of the Augustana College choir for four years and studied voice privately during college years and later.

She graduated from Augustana College in 1926 and became a high school teacher at Yale (SD), with responsibilities in history, English and vocal music. On July 11, 1928, she married Morris P. Hasvold of Flandreau, who was superintendent at Yale. They also lived at Garden City (SD) and St. Lawrence (SD).

In 1939 they moved to Flandreau, where they lived until her death. They celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1978. She was active in several church and community organizations. She was a teacher in both Sunday School and adult Bible classes. She sang regularly in her church choir. She developed a special reading, "Women of the Bible," which she gave before women's groups in Flandreau and other communities. Her pamphlet "Pages From An Historian's Notebook" was distributed nationally by the Lutheran Women's Organization as a model for local Ladies Aid history projects. Form 1952 to 1958 she was a member of the Board of Regents of Augustana College. She was also a member of the national board of the American Lutheran Women.

She is survived by her husband, Morris; her son, Paul, a Lutheran pastor in Decorah, Iowa; two brothers, Rev O. L. Levorson of Madison, Minn. and H.N. Levorson of Colman; two sisters, Estella Mix of Seattle, Wash. and Josephine Jones of Glenwood, Minn., and two grandsons, Peter and Thomas Hasvold of Decorah, Iowa.
