Loreina W. Phelan, 96, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2006 at Riverview Manor in Flandreau.
Funeral services are Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation began at 2 p.m. today with a 7 p.m. scripture service at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Flandreau.
She was born May 7, 1910, at Larchwood, Iowa, to Henry and Nellie (Clerx) Bruggeman.
She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Larchwood and received her nurses training at McKennan Hospital.
Lori married Lester Phelan on Oct. 11, 1937, at Larch-wood. They moved to Flandreau in 1938 and began farming northeast of Flandreau. After her children became older she started working at Riverview Manor.
Lester died on Nov. 19, 1964. She moved into Flandreau in 1975. In 1997 she moved to the Riverview Apartments and then later into Riverview Manor.
Lori was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church.
She is survived by six children, Sharon (Don) Steinbrecher of Longmont, Colo., John (Theresa) of Sioux Falls; Mike of Fort Lupton, Colo., Paul (Sheri) of Rapid City, Peggy (Don) Lien of Sioux Falls and Greg (Bev) of Castle Rock, Colo.; 17 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester, a granddaughter, Shelly, a great-grandson, Matthew, five brothers and five sisters.
