Winston "Winnie" Hill died Wednesday eve¬ning February 29, 2012 at Dougherty Hospice in Sioux Falls, SD. Winston was born on February 27, 1920, to Charles and Susie (Shankland) Hill in Harrisburg, SD. He grew up in Harrisburg, and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1933. On September 9, 1941, he was married to Olive Bellach. They made their home of many years in Harrisburg. Olive died in October 1986. He married Gladys Kuhns December 29, 1993, and moved to Sioux Falls. Gladys died in February 2008. Winston served in WWII with the US Army 94th Infantry Division in England, France, Germany, and Czechoslovakia. He was awarded two purple hearts, and after the war he was discharged in 1945. Winston was a long time member of the Harrisburg United Methodist Church in Harrisburg, and later joined First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls. Winston is survived by his son David (Marlys); grandsons Thomas and Gregory (Shannon), and great grandsons Kyle and Ryan, all of Sioux Falls; three step-grandchildren, Gene (Stacy) Kopecky of Rochester, MN, John (Krista) Kopecky of Waseca, MN and Karla (Michael) Rolfzen of St. Cloud, MN and their chil¬dren and several nieces and nephews. In addi¬tion to Olive and Gladys, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chester Hill of Worthing, SD. Visitation will be Sunday, March 4, 2012 from 12-5 p.m. with fam¬ily present from 2-4 pm at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, March 5, 2012 at First Congregational Church starting at 10:30 a.m. with burial at Pleasant View Cemetery in Harrisburg.
