Bertha Rudd, daughter of Gottlieb and Marie Rothenbuehler was born at Niobrara, Nebraska on November 26, 1892. At the age of two she moved with her parents to Remsen, Iowa in a covered wagon. She received her education at Remsen Public School and in 1913 moved to Garretson where she worked for the telephone company. She was married to Clayton W. Rudd on August 20, 1918 and they started farming in the Garretson area. In 1926 they moved to a farm near Egan. In 1940 they moved to her present farm southeast of Flandreau. She was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, past president of the Redeemers Lutheran ladies aid in Egan, past president of Our Saviors's ALCW, longtime member of the Square Deal Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Audrey, Mrs. Charles A. Johnson and Veryl Rudd, Flandreau; 3 grandchildren, Rudd, Jeffrey and Jaralyn Johnson Losey; one sister, Mrs. Louise Osvog, Sioux Falls; one brother Roy Rothenbuehler, Modesto, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters and four brothers.
