Russel Edwin Alberts was born in Davis, SD, on Sep. 3, 1921, the son of John and Jennie (VanGerpen) Alberts. He grew up in the Marion/Parker areas and graduated from Parker High School in 1939. He served in the US Army Infantry during World War II. He had owned and operated the Marion Hotel and then was in insurance sales in Sioux Falls. He married his first wife and had three sons, Ron, Tom and Dennis. On Dec. 31, 1973, he was married to Harriet Wendt Sturdevent in Omaha, NE. Following their marriage, they lived in Omaha, Minneapolis, and Sioux Falls. He was Admissions Director at Stenotype Institute of South Dakota for 20 years. In 1982, they moved to Lennox where they had since lived. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Haviing been in failing health, Russel died suddenly at his home in Lennox on Friday evening, Aug. 9, 1996. He attained the age of 74 years, 11 months nad seven days. Grateful for having shared his life are his widow, Harriet; three sons: Ron Alberts and his wife, Mary, of Parkston; Tom Alberts and his wife, Donna, of Avon; and Dennis Alberts and his wife, Georgia, of Newcastle, WY; one daughter: Grenda Major and her husband Steve, of Omaha, NE; two step-daughters: Diane Thoren and her husband, Torrey, of St. Paul, MN; and Georgia Alberts and her husband, Dennis, of Newcastle, WY; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers: Ben Alberts of Rochester, MN, and John "Bud" Alberts of Beach, ND; two sisters: Jeanette Kervink of Sioux Falls, and Leon Wilson and her husband, Dale, of Sidney, MT.
