Elmer Evan Voges was born on a farm in Lincoln County, SD on Feb. 5, 1919, the son of Floyd and Gertrude (Adams) Voges. He grew up there and graduated from Worthing High School. On Nov. 17, 1939 Elmer was united in marriage to Arlene Jacobs at Rock Rapids, IA. The couple made their home in Worthing. Elmer farmed and milked cows for a few years and then was employed at John Morrell & Company in Sioux Falls until his retirement. His wife died on May 17, 2007, ending a marriage union of nearly 68 years. Elmer was a member of West Prairie Lutheran Church. He loved to bowl and bowled on leagues for many years. He and Arlene attended National Bowling tournaments throughout the country and at a tournament Elmer was recognized for having attended national tournaments for 25 consecutive years. Elmer was preceded in death by his mother on May 7, 1988, his father on Feb. 6, 1993 and his wife, Arlene, on May 17, 2007. Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Jerry Voges of Keystone; four grandchildren: Kimberly Arbeiter, Huron, Shane Voges, Worthing, Stacy McDonald Tulsa, OK and Justin Voges, Rapid City; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, as well as other relatives and a host of friends.
