Frances TWEDT

Lands Lutheran Cemetery
Lincoln County,
South Dakota

Jan 20, 1925--July 20, 2009

Gertrude "Frances" Twedt, age 84, after having prepared and served over 63,000 tasty meals to the boys in her life, as well as countless casseroles and deserts for church gatherings, joined the saints triumphant during the early hours of July 20, 2009 while sleeping at her home in rural Hudson, SD. Funeral Services will begin at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Frances was born to Johannes and Agnes (Ugland) Lillemoe on January 20, 1925 near Frankfort, SD. She was the first of five daughters. She graduated from Augustana Academy, Canton, SD in 1943. She attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen, SD and received a teaching certificate. She returned to Lincoln County, SD and taught at Jensvold and Pleasant Hill schools. On November 29, 1947 Frances married Harvey Glenn Twedt at Lands Lutheran Church, rural Hudson, SD. They lived their married life farming in Norway Township, one mile north and a mile and a quarter east of Norway Center on the south side of the road. Between January of 1949 and August of 1953 they were blessed with three sons. Besides being a loving and dedicated wife and mother, Frances was also a faithful member of Lands Lutheran Church of the Moe Parish. She was very active in many areas of the congregation's life, including the church library and bell choir. For several years she brought two homemade blueberry pies for church functions to the exclusion of her "boys" until one day the Lord sent the farm cats to disrupt her balance, sending the pies to the right and the left. After that incident, she baked three pies, leaving one for home use. Besides her husband Harvey of 61 years, Frances is survived by three sons, David (Connie), Wardensville, WV, Philip, Hudson, SD, and Paul (Phyllis), Tacoma, WA; five grandchildren, Maren, Brandi, Lucy, Dan and Judy; four great-grandchildren, Cash, Cameron, Christopher and Cade; sisters, Phyllis (John) Wells, Josephine (Morris) Burch, Orinne Hagen, and Marguerite (Jack) Bergren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Her "boys" would like to express their deep gratitude for the love and laughter she shared with them throughout their lives and will truly miss her calorie laden prune cake and world class mumbo gumbo.
