Carl Elroy Pierson, nicknamed "Bud", son of John A. and Alma (Anderson) Pierson, was born Jun. 21, 1910 at Alcester, SD. He grew up and was educated near Akron, IA in Union County on the SD side of the state line. As a young man, both of his parents had died and he began working as a farm hand in the area. Due to lack of work in the 1930's he began moving westward settling in the Worthing/Harrisburg area. Bud was united in marriage with Kay Brass on Dec. 25, 1934 at Lennox, SD. They lived in the Harrisburg/Worthing area where he continued farming until 1948 when they settled on the family's present farm location where they lived for 53 years. Bud farmed until he was 85 years old. He had a stroke in March of 1995 after which he retired to getting the mail, feeding the cats, and mowing the yard. At the end of April of 2001 both Kay and Bud moved to Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls due to their health. Grateful for have shared his life are his wife of 66 years, Kay Pierson, Harrisburg; one son, Russ Pierson, Sioux Falls; three daughters: Deloris Lind and her husband, Bob, Worthing; Carol DeWitt and her husband, Todd, Worthing; and Donna Johnson and her husband, Wayne, Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sister: Viola Venard, Vermillion and Mildred Dodge, Mitchell.
