NELSON Valley Springs, SD Died: Tuesday, April 13, 2010 Sioux Falls, SD Age: 72 years, 2 months, 5 days VISITATION Begins at 5:00 PM Friday, April 16, 2010 George Boom Funeral Chapel, Brandon, SD The family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM MEMORIAL SERVICE 11:00 AM Saturday, April 17, 2010 Beaver Valley Lutheran Church rural Valley Springs, SD Reverend Jerry Merkouris, Officiating Ruth Tieszen, Organist Jon Salberg, Vocalist "On Eagle's Wings" "Borning Cry" Congregational Hymns "Children of the Heavenly Father" "Amazing Grace" Dale Robert Nelson, son of Arthur and Eleanor (Larson) Nelson, was born February 8, 1938 in Brookings, SD. He grew up in Valley Springs, SD and graduated from Valley Springs High School. Dale gave new meaning to the word "workaholic". As a freshman in high school he started his own dairy. As a junior he joined the Air National Guard. Dale enjoyed the challenges of farming and was always looking to advance his knowledge of new techniques with machinery or fertilizer. Dale was a world traveler who made several trips to Thailand and enjoyed fishing and hunting trips into the Northwest Territories. He also loved cheering on his grandchildren during any of their sporting events. Dale will always be remembered for his big heart, quirky little smile and sense of humor. He loved to bring happiness and a smile to others with a quick joke. Always willing to lend a hand, Dale put others before himself. Grateful for having shared his life are four children, Kim Myers and her husband, Jeff, Valley Springs, SD, Jennifer Seykora and her husband, Tom, Lonsdale, MN, Brooke Nelson, Lyons, SD, Eric Nelson and his wife, Andrea, Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren, Justin and Jefferson Myers, Meghan and Colton Seykora; two sisters, Becky Schoeneman and her husband, Harry, Elkton, SD, Marlys Aartun and her husband, Terry, Colton, SD; his special friend, Surang; his canine companion, Jesse; and a host of other relatives and friends. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Art and Eleanor Nelson."
