Arthur F. Grove, M.D.

Arthur F. Grove was born in 1884 on a farm near Plainview, Minnesota. He was the youngest of eight children of a Norwegian farm family.

He graduated in pre-med from the University of Minnesota and from Medical school at the University of Illinois. Dr. Grove completed a residency in surgery at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

In 1912, Dr. Grove moved to Dell Rapids, South Dakota, to practice medicine with his brother, Dr. M.M. Grove and Dr. J.B. Egan. In the early 1940's, Dr. Egan was disabled by a stroke. Due to the extreme shortage of doctors during the war years, Dr. Grove carried on the practice alone. His practice was marked by frequent house calls, sometimes two a night, to homes and farmhouses throughout the region.

In 1948, he was joined by Dr. Paul K. Aspaas, and in 1952 by Dr. Grove's nephew, Dr. Roby G. Fisk.

He actively served the community of Dell Rapids and the surrounding area as a physician and surgeon for forty years.

In World War I, Dr. Grove served as a medical officer with an evacuation hospital in France and later with the Army of Occupation in Trier, Germany.

Gr. Grove was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and many local and national medical organizations.

In 1916 he married the former Diana Uline of Dell Rapids. They had two sons, Thomas and Alan. Dr. Arthur Grove passed away in 1960.
