Leo K. Jervik, age 78, passed away Sunday, Nov. 22, 2009 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at Hudson Lutheran Church in Hudson, SD, with burial at Lands Lutheran Cemetery of rural Hudson. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home in Canton, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Leo Kermit Jervik was born May 11, 1931 in Lincoln County, South Dakota to Magnus and Martha (Pederson) Jervik. He was baptized and confirmed at Lands Lutheran Church. He attended Highland Center and Eastview Grade Schools and graduated from Alcester High School in 1949. Leo worked as a farm hand until entering the U. S. Marine Corps in 1952. He served in Korea and was honorably discharged in 1954. Leo married Darlene Miller in April 10, 1954. They lived and farmed south of Canton until 1990, when they moved to a farm near Hudson. Leo also did various types of custom farming in the area throughout the years. He retired from farming in 2004. He enjoyed selling used cars and having coffee with family and friends. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Those grateful for having shared his life are: his wife of 55 years, Darlene; his children- Greg, Canton, Brenda (Wade) Johnson, Brookings, SD, Kirk (Julie), Sibley, IA, Lane (Julie) , Hudson, SD, and Kevin, Long Beach, CA; eight grandchildren- Nicole Jervik, Christopher Jervik, Alex Jervik, Daniel Johnson, Jeremy (Nalo) Johnson, Brandon Johnson, Karisa (Blake) Dykstra, and Kelsey Jervik; one great-grandson, Isaiah Johnson; sister, Joyce Anderberg, Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law, Milo Knutson, Canton; and uncle, Kenny Pederson, Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his son, Clark, his parents, and his sister, Audrey Knutson.
