Even Husby was born near Buvika, Trondheim, Norway, to Ingeborg and Ingebrigt Ro Husby on June 16, 1856. He was the oldest of six children. He immigrated to America in 1881 as a young man seeking the new land. Johannah (or J ohane, Norwegian spelling) Olson was born June 1863, at Jevnaker Prestegjeld, Hadeland, Norway. Her parents were Steffen S. Olson and Anne Roatterud Olson. She was their third child. The Olson family crossed the Atlantic in a sail boat, taking seven weeks to cross. On the boat, a brother was born and named Olaf, the name of the boat. There was no parson on board, so the captain baptized the baby. The family traveled from the Atlantic to McGregor County, Iowa, living there three years. The family departed for the Dakota Territory in the spring of 1869, traveling by covered wagon and two yoke of oxen. On one wagon was nailed a box con¬taining a few cackling hens. Also in the procession were a few cows. It took them three weeks from Claremont, Iowa to Gayville, S.D. Johannah Olson and Even Husby were married Dec. 10, 1885. After spending some time in her parental home, Even purchased a horse so he could go out and do carpentry work. Their first years of marriage they lived at Sergeant Bluffs, Iowa. In November 1888 they came to Norway Township, Lincoln County, where Even Husby had bought 80 acres of land. Even and Johannah had six children: Ida (Mrs. Alfred Wevik), born June 2, 1889; Anna, Feb. 28, 1892; Johan (John), born May 21,1894. Simon (Sam), born June 12,1897; Emma Ekanger, born Oct. 9, 1899; and William, born Dec. 12, 1901. They continued to live on the farm until 1920 when they retired and moved to Canton, S.D. Even suffered a stroke and died Jan. 31, 1931. Johannah moved back to the farm and lived with her son, William, until her daughter Em¬ma and family bought the farm August, 1940. Johannah lived at Bethesda Home at Beresford for a number of years and then lived with her oldest daughter, Ida Wevik, until her death Oct. 17, 1953. At this date, there are only two children living. Emma Ekanger lives at Alcester, and William lives at Portland, Ore. Grandson Ernest Ekanger and fami¬ly live on the Even and Johannah Husby farm, northeast quarter 28-96-51 in Brooklyn Township.
