Paul J. Eneboe (1853-1909) was born in Gulbrandsdalen, orway. He had four brothers and three sisters. He came to America on a sail boat that took 14 weeks to make the journey and came to Dakota Territory by oxen. For some time he worked on a barge on the Missouri River from Sioux City to Helena, Mont. Oliana Illebeck was born in Hulland, Norway, in 1849. She married Paul and they homesteaded southwest of Can¬ton in Lincoln County. They broke up the land with oxen and a 14-inch walking plow. To get provisions, Paul would load eggs, butter and wheat and drive the oxen to Sheldon, Iowa to get flour and other necessities. There were seven children born to this union: John, Chris, Peter, Ida (Mrs. Matt Olsen, Kensett, Iowa), Marie (Mrs. Van Antwerp, Broken Bow, Neb.), Mark, and Sophia (Mrs. Carl Leraas). Most are buried in the Romsdal Church Cemetery. (Source: The History of Lincoln Co, SD 1985, page 365)
