Neal 1908 - 1977
Arla 1906 - 1994

Neal W. Anderson and his wife Arla moved as tenants to Lincoln Township, Lincoln County, in 1934, the year after their marriage. At that time, the farm was a tree-less, weed• infested and uncared-for plot of land. After years of work and caring (there was no weed spray available in those days) this farm has emerged as beautiful and as productive as any other farm in this part of the country. Now, as owners, the Andersons take pride in this farm, and hope it can be kept in the family for many years to come. Neal W. Anderson was a descendant of settlers from Scotland and Ireland who migrated to the U.S. in the early 1800's and settled in the southern part of the country. At the advent of the civil war they moved into Illinois, a free state, because they were very much against slavery. It wasn't until about 1911, when Neal was a small child, that his im¬mediate family moved to South Dakota. Arla Anderson is a decendant of Norwegian immigrants who left Norway in about 1870 and settled in Lincoln Coun¬ty, S.D. The Neal Andersons have three children: Raemalee Loen, Washington, D.C.; Neal Carter Anderson, Beresford, S.D.; and Molly Uden, Marshall, Minn. The family was members of Romsdal Lutheran Church of Moe Parish. They attended Sunday school, church ser¬vices, and confirmation classes there. Neal W. Anderson died at his home of an unexpected and massive heart attack on Dec. 30, 1977. He is buried at the Romsdal Church Cemetery.
