Ben DeVries was born on a farm north of Chancellor, SD on Jul. 11, 1895, the son of Andrew and Mary (Mundhenke) DeVries. He attended rural school and grew to manhood there. On Aug. 30, 1918 he was united in marriage to Dena Bosch at Germantown Presbyterian Church, rural Chancellor. Following their marriage they farmed for 20 years north of Chancellor. In 1940 they moved to Tea, where he was employed as an auto mechanic at the Tea Garage. He retired in 1960 and continued to make his home in Tea. His death ended a marriage partnership of over 61 years. He was an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church of Tea. Following a lingering illness of one year and recent hospitalization of two weeks, Ben died in a Sioux Falls hospital on Oct. 31, 1979. He attained the age of 84 years, three months and 20 days. Survivors include his widow, Dena; one son, Donald DeVries of Sioux Falls; one grandson, Clinton J. DeVries of Sioux Falls; two sisters, Mrs Fannie Fogelman of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Annie VanHove of Lennox.
