Rev. John Kaye, pastor at the Methodist church here, died Tuesday night March 19th at the Methodist Hospital at Mitchell, SD.

Funeral services will be held from the Methodist church at Harrisburg at 10 o'clock in the morning, and from the Hartford church, where he also served as pastor, at 2 o'clock the same afternoon. Interment will be In the Hartford Cemetery.

Mr. Kaye was bom at Maythorne Farm, Holmfirth, Yorkshire county, England, on November 22, 1860.

He came to America at the age of 21 and resided In the state of Kansas for a period of four years, working in the Y. M. C. A. He then returned to England, was married to Annie Hirst, and together they resumed his residence in Fort Scott, Kansas, where they lived for three and one-half years.

While In England he was a member and local preacher of the Primitive Methodist church. He completed a three-year course at Garret Biblical Institute, Northwestern university, Evanston, IL and joined the Dakota Conference of the Metnodist Episcopal church in 1893, assuming tne charge at Volin, SD.

Since that time he has been an active member of the conference, thereby completing over 35 years of work. He has served 14 charges, viz: Volin, Wakonda, Valley Springs, Egan, Hartford, Howard, Alpena, Garden City, Scotland, Kimball, Lane, Springfield, Hudson and Harrisburg.

He came from a family of nine children, of whom two brothers, William and Jonas, and three sisters, Hannah, Mary Jane and Emily survive him.

Seven children were born to this union, of whom five survive: Albert A. Kaye, Highmore; Mrs. Lars J. Grinager, Canton; Mrs. A.L. Edwards, Watertown; Mrs. I. W. Eberhard, Anaheim, CA and J. W. Kaye, Beresford.

His wife, Annie Kaye, having died in 1917, he was married in 1920 to Mrs. Harriet Cobb Smith who survives him. He is also survived by 11 grand children.

Rev. Kaye has always enjoyed the best of health until about two years ago when he suffered a hard case of Shingles and a Goiter. The flu took its toll of his vitality this last winter, bringing on other complications. He was taken to the Methodist Hospital at Mitchell where he died.
