George Broghammer Passed Away
Friday Afternoon Following
Five Months Illness

Funeral services were held Monday morning, September 10, at 9 o'clock in St. Mary's church at Dell Rapids for George Broghammer who passed away at the Dell Rapids hospital Friday afternoon, September 7th, following an illness of five months duration. Father George Esterguard read the requiem high mass.

Mr. Broghammer was born at Festina, Iowa September 24th, 1866 and would have reached the age of 85 years within this month. He was united in marriage to Miss Clara Schissel of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, on September 6, 1892.

They resided on a farm near Festina, Iowa for three years, moving to the Dell Rapids vicinity in 1904, where he has continued to make his home for the past 47 years. His wife passed away in 1938.

Mr. and Mrs. Broghammer were the parents of nine children. One daughter dying in infancy. The surviving children are: John, Tony and Leo at home; Adele of Minneapolis; Joseph of Colman, S.D.; Mrs. Fred Munk (Philomena) Dell Rapids; Mrs. Jerome DeLay (Magdalen) of Flandreau and Mrs. B.J. Finley (Mary) of Lafayette, Indian. There are also 20 grandchildren. Two brothers, Henry of Dubuque, Iowa, and Mike of Chicago also survive.

Interment was in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Dell Rapids, Pallbearers were Peter Schmidt, Francis Fitzgerald, Cletus Mousel, Art Klein, John Mueller and Lester Collins.

Relatives from away attending last rights were Movice and Eulalia Broghammer of Decorah, Iowa; Ed and Detrick Menne of Potosi, Wisc.; Alph Schissel of Ossian, Iowa; Mrs. John Hageman, Ossian, Iowa; Don Meyer of Calmar, Iowa; Mathilda Schissel of Ft. Atkinson, Iowa; Melvin Munk, Fort Custer, battle Creek, Mich.; Robert Broghammer of Omaha, Nebr. and Carmel Broghammer of Farmington, Minn.

The community will miss Mr. Broghammer. He has been a highly esteemed citizen of the vicinity for nearly a half century, always working for the best interest of his family, friends and neighbors, and few men acquire more friends than did Mr. Broghammer.
