The news of the death of Chas. B. Huntimer, a native born and former resident of Potosi, was received with sorrow here. He died in a hospital at Dell Rapids, S.D., on Sunday, Oct. 31, following an operation for obstruction of the bowels.

Mr. Huntmer was first taken on Tuesday but, however, was up and around and was down in the city on Thursday. He was taken worse, however, and other treatment having failed, was taken to the operating table Sunday morning. The operation was performed at 10:30 and the end came at 12:30.

The funeral services were held Sunday from St. Mary’s church and interment made in Dell Rapids Catholic cemetery. For many a year everybody knew Charley Huntimer and they attended to pay their last respect to their old friend and neighbor.

Mr. Huntimer was born in the town of Potosi on Dec. 29, 1853 and was 56 years, 10 months and two days old at the time of death. He was a son of Valentine and Mrs. Huntimer, pioneer residents of Potosi. He was married to Miss Ellen M. Sweeney at Holy Cross, Iowa, April 27, 1876. They went to farming near Potosi and lived here two years. In the spring of 1878, they moved to the new territory of Dakota, setting on the homestead upon which stands the present village of Huntimer, named after the family.

To Mr. and Mrs. Huntimer were born eight children. Two of them, Mrs. Amelia Willard and a son who died in infancy, preceded the father to the better land. The surviving children are: Mrs. Susie Schaefer, Mrs. Alice Baumberger of near Huntimer, Mrs. Cecilia Anthony of Sioux City, Frank, Fred, and Marin all of Huntimer village. Besides the widow and children Mr. Huntimer is survived by five brothers: William of Madison, S.D., John of Olympia, Wash., Henry of Long Beach, Calif., Valentine and Frank of Huntimer, and three sisters: Mrs. C.C. Hamilton of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Mrs. M.E. Riley of Fowler, Calif. There are also 23 living grandchildren.
